Overindulged pooches hit the gym with owners

Veterinarian Leisa Denaro has seen the effects of too much of the good life on the Sunshine Coast's pooches.
About 80% of the dogs that come through the doors of her Nambour vet clinic are overweight and at risk of developing serious health conditions.
In an effort to find a solution to the epidemic, she has teamed up with Matt Collins from Fatburner's Fitness Training to offer a six-week weight loss program for both canine and owner.
"It doesn't matter if you have two or four legs, obesity can lead to diabetes, heart disease and cancer," Ms Denaro said.
"More and more people are finding themselves time poor which means neither the per or the owner get outside to exercise."
Personal trainer Matt Collins said the six-week program, Fitness Unleashed, could be compared to the latest Channel Ten TV series The Biggest Loser.
"There will be weekly prizes and a grand prize for the dog and the owner who lose the most combined weight," he said.
"You'll only be as strong as the weakest member of your team. Participants will also attend informative seminars on nutrition and fitness."
Kristy Oliver, of Bli Bli, has already signed on with her best friend Rusty - a four-year-old 85kg Great Dane (pictured).
"I come to the gym already but this program will improve the bond Rusty and I have," she said.
There are only 12 spots available in the program. The first session starts on March 8th at 6pm and registration closes on February 28th. It costs $229 and includes a 12-month PCYC membership.
