YOUR NEW PUPPY
IN A NUTSHELL
VACCINATION6 – 8 weeks: 1st vaccination
10 – 12 weeks: 2nd vaccination
14 – 16 weeks: 3rd vaccination in some cases
INTESTINAL WORMING – Drontal or Milbemax0 - 12 weeks: Fortnightly worming
12 weeks - 6 months: Monthly worming
6 months +: 3 monthly worming for life
HEARTWORM PREVENTIONOptions include monthly tablets or an annual injection. We recommend the annual heartworm injection for convenience and safety. This eliminates the risk of monthly treatments being forgotten or given late. The heartworm injection can be given from 3 months of age, boosted at 6 months and 15 months of age, and then given yearly.
FLEA CONTROL AND TICK CONTROLWe live in a high tick area. We recommend starting your puppy on Nexguard, a tasty chew given ONCE A MONTH, or Bravecto. Monthly dosing is useful in puppies growing through the weight brackets. For older pups and adult dogs, Bravecto is a tasty chew given ONCE EVERY 3 MONTHS that provides highly effective protection against both fleas and ticks for 3 months. Bravecto is safe in puppies over 8 weeks of age and weighing more than 2kg.
DIETWe recommend starting your new pup on a premium diet such as Hills Vet Essentials.
DE-SEXINGWe recommend de-sexing at 5-6 months of age.
PET INSURANCEWe strongly recommend you consider pet insurance for your pet while they are young and have no pre-existing conditions, which would later be excluded from insurance. Pet insurance is increasingly the way most pet owners manage their veterinary costs.
