Lamington Terrace Vet recommends annual vaccination for both cats and dogs. There is a 3 year vaccination available (dogs only), however it only covers Distemper, Parvovirus & Hepatitis. It does not cover Parainfluenza and Bordetella (Kennel Cough). This means you still need to visit each year for vaccination.
Since the introduction of the 3 yearly vaccine, we have witnessed a lot of confusion from clients who think their pets are fully vaccinated every 3 years. They are not! Clients usually discover this when they try to board their dog at a boarding kennel and are not allowed in! We've received several frantic phone calls from distressed owners desperate to upgrade their vaccination quickly so they can go on holiday! Due to the confusion, and the fact that you need to visit annually for the Kennel Cough vaccine, Lamington Terrace Vet vaccinates using the traditional C5 annual vaccine. The C5 vaccine is a full vaccination which lasts 12 months.
It is also critical to visit each year for a physical exam. Pets bodies age 7 times faster than ours due to their shorter life. In fact, your pets body ages 21 years in 3 years! During this exam we can pick up signs of disease (eg kidney disease, heart disease). Early detection can make a huge difference to the life of your pet!
If you have any questions about vaccines, please don't hesitate to contact the practice for more information.
