As part of our continuing effort to provide the best care for your pet, we would like to make you aware of a new vaccination program now available at our clinic. Previously we vaccinated all dogs annually against important diseases such as Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus. You now have the option to switch to a new vaccine that provides 3 years of protection against these three diseases. Please note that although your dog will now only receive this vaccine every 3 years, there are other diseases such as Parainfluenza and Bordetella that still require an annual booster. Therefore, it should not in any way affect the timing or frequency of your visits to our clinic. Should you prefer to continue with the traditional annual vaccination, we will also continue to offer this as well as the new 3 year program.
This new vaccine has an added advantage in puppies receiving their primary vaccination course. Using, this vaccine, puppies can have completed their primary vaccination course at as young as 10 weeks of age. This has great advantages in being able to socialise puppies earlier, instead of having to wait an additional month or 2 for the primary course to be completed. It has been shown that this critical learning period is around 12-16 weeks of age.
Remember that vaccines are only one part of your dog's overall care and regularly scheduled visits are still necessary to maintain your dog's health.
If you would like some more information or would like to switch your dog to the new vaccination program, please contact us at the clinic.
